Summary Note520 _aThey had a tribal council which serves as their court which implements their laws and interprets the essence of their oral laws. They had unique customs that they observe within their tribes in a year round. They had different political practices to sustain their existence as tribes. Some of them still observed idol worship and had gods and goddesses whom they worshipped. Some of them observed magic and practices sorcery. Some of their community had a cult of house that is called "Faareh or Kun" for Armate tribe and cremation for Dani Tribe. They observe several practices in their religious activities. They had unique health practices in which they used natural herbal and traditional medicine with the help of their witchdoctor to cure different diseases and observe several practices on health. They had informal education implemented by the parents, which is more on the development of skills and values for tribal and family survival. The result of this study can help the government of Papua, Indonesia and other concerned authorities to know the right approach to reach out these tribal people from Dani and Armate tribes.
Summary Note520 _aThis study aimed to identify the beliefs and practices in terms of political life, religion, health, and education of the Armate and Dani tribes in Papua, Indonesia for collegiate year: 2012-2013. The research followed an ethnographic design which uses the qualitative research design for describing, analyzing, and interpreting a cultural groups shared patterns of beliefs and practices in the area of political life, religion, health, and education. There were 12 respondents in the study of which six were from Armate tribe and six from Dani tribe. The selected tribal groups had a stable political life in which they believed that customs, norms, and laws governed their lives. Their religious beliefs have become the basis of their religious life. They had health beliefs that guided them on what they should do in case of any health problem in the family and in the community. Lastly, they had educational beliefs which guided them on how to educate the children and the youth in the community. Similarity, they had their unique practices based on their beliefs in terms of political life, religion, health, and education. The main purpose of this study want to determine the portrait image (ethnography) of the selected tribes of Papua, Indonesia in terms of their beliefs and practices in the areas of political, religion, health, and education. They had a stable system of government led by the chieftain with the support of each family through education and implementation.
