Summary Note520 _aHome and School Association (HSA) plays a very important role in the success of education through its active involvement in the totality of school activities. Drake (1995) stated that if American public school systems are to fulfill their purpose of educating all students, they will need to be guided by a people-oriented approach, one that includes parents. Far Eastern Division Educational Department of Seventh-day Adventist: (SDA) mandated the organization of a Home and School Association in every SDA school. Eggen and Kauchak (1992) strongly emphasized the importance of parents as "key individuals" whose support can make important contributions to the school's effort in accomplishing its educational mission. This could only be attained through the organization of the Home and School Associations considered to be the right hand of the school. (SDA Church Manual). However, Fadri (1978) made an alarming statement that Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) had already lost its real picture to the public as he said that it has now become a "school improvement association". It had deviated much from the original purpose of being the right hand of the school in the educational mission. Simon (1990) said that oftentimes HSA or PTA are perceived in the mind of a child as separate entities. The main purpose of this study was to assess the status of the Home and School Association of Seventh-Day Adventist elementary schools in Southern Luzon Mission. Answers were sought for the following questions: (1) What is the status of the Home and School Association of Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools in Southern Luzon Mission pertaining to objectives, organizations, and activities? (2) Are there differences in the ratings of the principals and teachers, and parents regarding the objectives, organizations, and activities of the Home and School Association? (3) Are there differences in the ratings of the urban and the rural respondents on the objectives, organizations, and activities of the Home and School Association? (4) What model may be proposed in order to make the Home and School Association more functional? This study was a descriptive-inferential research. The principal and teachers, and parents were the respondents. Responses on the status of the Home and School Association in terms of objectives, organizations and activities are the dependent variables. The mean and the standard deviation were used to determine the status of Home and School Association and a t-test was used to determine the differences in ratings of the principals and teachers, and parents considering the objectives, organizations, and activities of the Home and School Association; the ratings of the urban and the rural respondents considering the objectives, organizations, and activities of the Home and School Association. A self-constructed instrument was prepared by the researcher to measure the status of the Home and School Association of Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools of Southern Luzon Mission. The validity of the instrument was obtained from the ratings given by experts and from the SPSS, which had an alpha reliability of .9553. Findings of this study are: the principals and teachers, and parents agreed that they have met the conditions provided for in the questionnaire pertaining to the objectives of the Home and School Association with a mean rating of 3.5449; however, they were uncertain about the organizations of the Home and School Association which had a mean rating of 3.4173; likewise, the principals and teachers, and parents were uncertain of the activities of the Home and School Association with the mean rating of 3.4235; there is no significant difference of the ratings of the principals and teachers, and parents on the objectives, organizations and activities which means that they have common problems on their, perceptions. However, there is a significant difference in the perceptions of principals and teachers, and parents in rural schools to those in urban schools. They differ significantly in their ratings of the objectives, but there is no significant difference in their ratings of the organizations and activities. Based from the findings of the study, the following conclusions are: Home and School Association of Southern in Mission agree that they have met the conditions pertaining to objectives; however, they have not come up to what is expected of them on organizations and activities; the three variables (objectives, organizations, and activities) need to be given proper attention by the principals and teachers, and parents in order to make the Home and School Association of. Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools of Southern Luzon Mission are more effective; the respondents of the rural schools are more informed of the objectives of the Home and School Association than the respondents of the urban schools. The principals and teachers, and parents have common perceptions of the organizations and activities of the Home and School Association. Both the urban and the rural schools have to improve the organizations and activities of their Home and School Association. To strengthen the organizations and make the association more effective in developing activities for its progress, an organizational model is proposed.
