| Summary Note | 520 | _a | The study elucidated Flannery O'Connor's vision of the world as articulated in her novel Wise Blood through characterization, setting, plot, and symbolism. It was found out that Flannery O'Connor saw the world as "territory largely held by the devil." But God's grace has been offered to man through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, and man through his acceptance of the grace offered could experience conversion and, ultimately, salvation. Such vision was influenced by factors like home and country, religion, books read, and personal experiences. To objectify in the world, Miss O'Connor peoples her novel with grotesque characters and places them in settings that reek of death, deterioration and decay. The plot is full of violent scenes and consists of three basic categories of action, namely: a rebellion against belief, a crisis of faith, and a resolution in a moment of grace. Two of the more powerful used by the author to carry her vision across are the imagery of vision and the title of the novel, "Wise Blood.". | |
