| Summary Note | 520 | _a | The use of communication and information is vital in the adaption to a new environment and uncertain conditions. Hence this study was conducted to assess interpersonal communication, social support and self- efficacy as predictors of sociocultural adaption of international students in Christian university. It is a descriptive correlation study grounded on the social information processing theory, which analyzes the use of interpersonal communication of the student in communicating with their parents, peers and teachers. A total of 92 respondents were selected to participate on the survey. The method of communication used by the respondents for their families are instant messaging, video chat/ conferencing and face- to-face. The overall results of the study show that self efficacy is the strong predictor of the socio-cultural adaption of the respondents. Also the social support of the family contributed to predicting the socio- cultural adaption of the respondents. The general finding of the study reported that high preparation to adapt to the new environment need to have strong interpersonal communication and relationship with the family, and lastly, it is important to maintain good interpersonal interaction between the students and teachers. Hence communication plays a big role in the cultural adaption of international students. | |
