Summary Note | 520 | _a | Social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook are one of the most used online social applications in the world. The advertising in these platforms has become so widely used and beneficial to many large companies and organizations, and also for small businesses, as advertising through social media is much cheaper as opposed to traditional means such as billboards and television ads... So how do successful visual use these social media platforms as a means for advertising their works? How do they maintain their success? This study used qualitative research design, using Mezirow (1978) Transformative Learning Theory as framework. Purposive sampling was used to gather data. Two successful visual artists were interviewed to answer the study's objectives. The results generated themes such as: through consistent posts, re-posts, reaching out and open communication, sub-themes to main theme exposure effect. For second objective, the themes are through observations, open to criticisms, and network of influence. The personal experience of the artists and their contact with the followers has had a positive impact on the artworks. Interaction with followers has little effect on their creative ouput, though artists are seeking more likes. This research extends the study into mobile social media engagement in the art world, which is of great significance for social media research into the interactive psychology of artwork and digital marketing communications. Potential research on people curators and the fields of sociology analytics study is recommended. | |
