General Note500 _aBTh (BSPSYCH) - Adventist University of the Philippines, Puting Kahoy, Sialng, CAvite, 2019.
Summary Note520 _aThe death of two public school teachers in the Philippines, which are presumed to be caused by their heavy workloads, various teachers groups have urge the department of educational to look into the mental health issues of public schools teachers. The aim of the was to determine weather self-care had a mediating effect on stress and suicide potential among secondary public school teachers. Eighty eight secondary public school teachers from 3 schools in Cavite and Laguna responded to adopted questionnaires on stress, self-care and suicide potential . This study utilized descriptive- correlational design, and structural equation modeling. A good fit model was generated with missions of some variables from the original hypothesized model. The final model indicated that stress and suicide though were fully mediated by self-care. Teachers who experience stress due to work- related problems and their relationships, role and administrative support increase their likelihood of having suicide thoughts (B=.05). However practicing professional and spiritual self-care decreases their likelihood of having suicide thought (B=-.22) Implication from this study will help create programs that will not only raise awareness but also improve teacher's mental health.
