Summary Note520 _aMany studies on academic performance highlighted ability and aptitude as its primary determinants, and studies examining the role of psychological well -being and motivation are few. In the tenets of self determination theory (SDT), study shows that the satisfaction of psychological needs generate a hos positive outcomes in the persons behavior. Using the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique, this study investigated the relationship of basic psychological needs satisfaction (BPNS), and the mediating role of self - regulated learning strategies (SRL) to academic performance. A total of 191 senior high school students randomly selected from a science high school in the Philippine were surveyed using adopted and modified self-report measure of the variables in the study. The academic performance pertain s to the student' general weighted average (GWA) which we secured with unanimous permission from the individuals student, class adviser, and school principals. Result of this study indicates that basic psychological needs satisfaction has no direct effect to academic performance. However, basis psychological needs satisfaction predicted the students' use of self regulated learning strategies, which the predicted academic performance, thereby, Achieving a full mediation. Implications, and recommendations particularly to students parents, and teachers were furthers discussed in the study.
