Oral Health Impact Profile Adventist University of the Philippines – College of Dentistry Patients in Silang, Cavite. Mandalas, Henry Y. Villamater, Jon Erik H. 2007. DDM. 35 leaves. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the social impact of oral health among Adventist University of the Philippines – College of Dentistry patients. Social impact of oral health was measured with then 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire (OHIP-14), administered to adult patients (n=97) ages 16-70 attending dental clinics managed by the Adventist University of the Philippines- College of Dentistry. Sociodemographic and clinical data thru DMFT were also collected. Data were analyzed using descriptive and bivariate analysis. Some 44.4% of the entire study sample reported experiencing an impact due to oral conditions during the past year. The most frequent impact experienced was self-consciousness (26.7% prevalence of impact), life less satisfying (16.7%) and felt tense (16.6%). It demonstrates that respondents experienced psychologic disabilities and discomforts due to oral conditions. No differences were observed in the OHIP scores by education and gender. Number of missing teeth is greatly related to functional limitations and psychological disability. The psychological discomfort in terms of self-consciousness and less than satisfying life in terms of handicap were the most observed impact of dental conditions. The study also documented fairly high prevalence of impact among AUP patients and the need to provide for comprehensive holistic management of their dental conditions. There is a great need to advocate for more priority for oral health since almost half of patients seen in Silang, Cavite reported being affected by dental conditions in their daily living.
