The rise in technology and the recent COVID-19 pandemic pose challenges regarding the parent-child relationship. Though there are studies about the relationship between personality traits and family functioning, as well as family functioning and parent-child connectedness, there has been a lack of studies regarding the relationship between these three variables. This study seeks to investigate personality traits and family functioning as they relate to parent-child connectedness, specifically warmth and autonomy. It also aims to determine if parent-child connectedness differs when a parent' s generation, sex, family structure, and educational attainment are considered. Using the quantitative descriptive-correlational method of research and convenience sampling technique, the researcher surveyed 304 Filipino parents online who were living in Luzon and were aged 22 to 60. Statistical analyses found that conscientiousness and agreeableness have a moderately strong positive correlation with parent-child connectedness. Family functioning is also positively related to parent-child connectedness. There are also no significant differences in parent-child four connectedness in terms of generation, sex, and family structure. However, when educational attainment is considered, parent-child connectedness significantly differs. Stepwise regression analyses determined that agreeableness, general functioning, openness, and conscientiousness influence parent-child connectedness, and agreeableness is the most significant influence.
