The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of first permanent molar caries for the basis in the use of pit and fissure sealants. The second purpose is to promote the importance, value, and awareness of pit and fissure sealants for pediatric patients. A descriptive research design was utilized where IDAS II caries index was used to assess the prevalence of caries on the permanent first molars. A total of 36 respondents were examined in this study. Data was analyzed using frequency, distribution, and Chi-square test. There were intially forty-seven 7-year old participants for the proposed study but only 36 (76 60%) of them met the inclusion criteria of having their first permanent molars fully erupted. Result showed that out of 144 teeth of the respondents, there were 121 sealable non-carious, 14 sealable carious, and 9 non-sealable carious teeth and there was no gender predilection for caries development. Therefore, the use of pit and fissure sealants should be strongly implemented in this age group, wherein the teeth are still sealable, to prevent and/or inhibit the occurrence of caries.
