Utilization of dental service by dormitory students of the Adventist University of the Philippines /

The study was conducted to determine the utilization of dental services of the Adventist University of the Philippine' (AUP) Health services by dormitory students. The subject of the study were AUP dormitory student who were enrolled in second semester of school year 2007 - 2008. self administered questionnaire consisting of 14 items were distributed among students in selected dormitories to determine their utilization of dental services. The study used satisfied random sampling technique to determine the number of the students to be included in the study and systematic random sampling technique to select the rooms from which the samples would come from. purposive sampling technique also used to select dormitories. The study showed the utilization rate is low and most student visit dental offices only on emergency basis (when a dental problem present). Most respondents we aware that they paid already for the dental services fee the knew the existence and provision of dental services . Among the dental services cleaning was the most utilized and availed of followed by extraction. The respondents ranked the location of the health services "far" and the cost "high". Lack of time was the factor that most hindered students from utilizing the services. More male respondents visited the dentist every six months whereas more female respondent visited a dentist wherever their is problem.
